Homeowners 101: Week 15 and 16
Week 15 & 16: April 9 & 16, 2023
Spring is in full swing, which can mean wet weather, high pollen count, and critters trying to get inside. Over the next two weeks, we will focus on exterior prevention projects such as patio maintenance and large critter control.
Copy and paste each bulleted item into your calendar. Set the recurring task based on the time frame in parentheses (monthly, weekly, etc). The week long schedule is a template to get your started. Set each of the home maintenance tasks on a day that works best for you, or ignore the ones that don't apply to your home.
Sunday:
Clear expired food and to-go containers out of the fridge & check your fridge’s temperature, airflow, and inside water filter. (weekly)
Visually inspect your fence and make a list of repairs needed. Consider planning on re-staining (yearly)
Monday:
Take a break! *
You can choose a day that is right for you, but a rest day from home maintenance is important to keep from burning out. I choose Mondays because let’s face it, work takes a big chunk out of all of us on Monday.
Tuesday:
Power wash driveway (yearly)
Remove all leaf or grass debris near the house. (monthly)
Check your home for signs of pest infestation, including squirrels or birds (seasonal).
Wednesday:
Re-stain and re-seal the driveway concrete (yearly)
Check your yard and garden for low spots where water stands (yearly)
Thursday:
Check your home’s exterior for chipped or worn paint. (yearly)
Next week is Week 3 of Brush & Bulky item collection in Dallas.
Brush and bulky items may be set out beginning on the Thursday prior to your collection week through Sunday prior to your collection week. Please see the My Schedule app here to find your week and find what items are accepted.
Friday:
Clean and replace all window screens. Repair any as needed (yearly)
Empty all trash bins and take the trash bins outside*
*Assign this to the day trash is collected at your home.
Saturday:
Oil the garage door if applicable. (yearly)
Fix any damage you observed to the fence, and/or re-stain it (yearly)
And that’s it for week 15/16! Happy Spring and Happy Home Health!
